Overview

The Burgettstown High School Chapter of The National Honor Society is an organization consisting of the school's leaders in the areas of Character, Leadership, Service, and Scholarship.

In order to be accepted into the NHS, students in grades 10, 11, or 12 must achieve a GPA of at least 3.5. Students who reach this minimum GPA requirement will be invited to apply and must then complete a comprehensive application that showcases accomplishments in the areas of Character, Leadership, Service, and Scholarship.

All applications are then reviewed by a panel of educators representing Burgettstown Area School District. Students fortunate enough to be chosen to join the NHS are formally inducted at a ceremony hosted by the school district. All selected candidates must be inducted, and membership begins on the date of induction. Prior to induction, they are still candidates, and not subject to any membership obligations.

Members of the NHS must then maintain a GPA of at least 3.25, be available for academic tutoring, complete no fewer than 20 total hours of community service outside of the school each year, and attend and/or participate in the planning and/or execution of at least 50% of the NHS's organized fundraiser and group community service events.
