Dual Enrollment Program

Burgettstown Area School District

Dual Enrollment Program

For Students in Grades 11 & 12

Burgettstown Area School District will accept both on-campus and online college dual enrollment courses for high school units towards graduation.  Students will have the opportunity to earn both high school units (2 per course) and college units (3 to 4 per course) through the program.  To enter the Dual Enrollment Program, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. The student must be a high school junior or senior.

  2. The student must be making satisfactory progress towards fulfilling graduation requirements as determined by the Guidance Office. **or by a non-public, cyber/charter or home school program**

  3. The student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.

  4. The student must demonstrate readiness for college-level coursework in the intended subject area of study, as determined by the district and the college.  Placement exams at the college may be required for course enrollment.

  5. Students who do not meet the criteria listed in A-D may be permitted to enroll in dual enrollment courses if approval is received from both the school district and the college.

  6. In order to remain in the program, the student must maintain a grade point average of 2.75 in the high school and a 2.0 (“C” average) in each dual enrollment course.

  7. The student must have and maintain satisfactory attendance and citizenship as determined by the district and the college.

Courses offered in the college setting are subject to the application and enrollment requirements of the college.  Each approved semester course successfully completed at a college will equal 2 units of Burgettstown graduation credit.  Dual enrollment courses will not count towards a student's Burgettstown GPA or class rank.  Generally, the course must be academic (English, math, history, or science departments) and not be an elective course.

Any course tuition costs, fees, and book charges must be paid by the students and family at the time of course enrollment.  All courses must be approved by the Guidance Office and the Principal prior to registration.  Questions regarding registering for dual enrollment courses should be directed to Mrs. Riley and the college’s Admissions Office.

All students interested in Dual Enrollment courses are strongly encouraged to contact the Admissions Office of each college they will be applying to in order to determine if the dual enrollment units will be accepted for transfer to the college each student enrolls in after high school graduation.

Burgettstown students have taken dual enrollment courses recently at the following colleges: Pitt, Penn State Beaver, WVU, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Clarion University, PennWest California, WVNCC, CCAC, CCBC, Pittsburgh Technical College, etc.  Once enrolled in a course, a copy of the registration form must be turned in to the Guidance Office.  Upon completion of the course, a copy of the grade transcript must be turned in to the Guidance Office.  You will not receive high school units for the course until you turn in all of these materials.
